My pawn shop rifle is leaving me. While disassembling the rifle, I found a name and town/state engraved on the bottom of the sight. I played a short game of Internet Detective and located the daughter of the guy whose name was engraved. I offered the parts, she wanted the whole gun. She made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, so it’s going in a box and getting shipped to Alaska.

That’s amazing! I’ve pulled a few deals out of Pawn Shops before but nothing like that.

Arkansas to Alaska has to be a pretty good story too. 81 years old and still practicing?

Excellent! Great karma for you to hunt the family down.

I’m still grumpy at my folks for giving away my great uncle’s 50’s Colt Woodsman...

Honorable to do, plus I assume you came out at least even?

Oh, way better than even. She REALLY wants this gun back. She’s more than doubling what I paid.

Her mom sold a bunch of guns after her dad died, and then others disappeared over the years. This is one that she shot a lot as a kid and she was pretty unhappy that it was gone.

This is great news.

Not only for you getting in contact with her but also her making it worth your while to send it to her.

I imagine she’ll open the box and just look at it. Then think of the times with her dad she shared that had been lost for likely longer than I’ve been alive.

One cannot put a price on sentimental value.

That’s cool. I have a camera with a name engraved on it, and after a little internet research I found out a bit about the family that owned it, but was unable to locate any living family.
